Niki Maragou is a chemist, she received a MSc degree in Chemical Analysis – Quality Control, with distinction, and a PhD degree in Chemistry, from the Department of Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She has worked in research programs of the Department of Chemistry (NKUA), as regulatory chemist and researcher at Benaki Phytopathological Institute and as lecturer at the Department of Food Science and Technology (University of West Attica) at the Department of Agricultural Development, Agrofood and Management of Natural Resources (NKUA) and at New York College (Athens). 

Her expertise involves development, validation and application of analytical methods for the determination of emerging pollutants in food and environmental samples, food analysis, dietary exposure and environmental risk assessment, quality control of pesticides’ formulations, regulatory legislation and evaluation of pesticides and biocides in the frame of Reg EC 528/2012 and Reg EC 1107/2009.

She has participated, as member, in working groups of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) regarding the evaluation and risk assessment of biocides and pesticides.

Her work has been published in international scientific journals with more than 600 citations. She has received the 1rst Roland W. Frei Award for best poster presentation from the International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry during the 3rd International Symposium on Recent Advances in Food analysis.  She is a reviewer for international scientific journals on analytical chemistry, food analysis and environmental analysis.
