Dr. Panagiotis Zoumpoulakis is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Food Science and Technology of the University of West Attica. He is a chemist (1999) with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Patras (2004) and an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business (2007). Since 2021, he is the Chair of the Department and directs the Laboratory of Chemistry Analysis and Design of Food Processes. From 2008 to 2020, Dr. Zoumpoulakis was a researcher at the Institute of Chemical Biology of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, advancing from Grade D to B. Since 2015, he has been a visiting professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly. He has professional experience from the private sector (2018-2019) when he worked as the Head of the Research and Development at Qualia Pharma SA under a mobility contract. Between 2006 and 2017, he was a laboratory associate at the Department of Food Technology, TEI of Athens.
Dr. Zoumpoulakis’s research focuses on the molecular design and bioanalysis of bioactive compounds with applications in health and food. He has participated in 32 Greek and European research projects, coordinating 10 of them. His publication record includes 159 original research papers and review articles in international scientific journals, over 140 conference papers, and 2 books and educational notes.
Since 2013, Dr. Zoumpoulakis has been a reviewer of research proposals for European and national committees, including the European Commission (H2020 – MSCA Individual Fellowships & FP7 – People), Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK), General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT), Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus (RPF), and The French Research Agency (ANR). He has extensive experience in startup entrepreneurship, technology transfer, and innovation, and has served on evaluation committees for startup business plan competitions. Additionally, he has held the position of General Secretary of the Food Science Division of the Association of Greek Chemists.
